Turning Red Projects Green: Our Success Stories

1. Large Microsoft Consulting Partner - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Customer Engagement for Sales, Customer Service and Project Operations

This four-year project went live October 1, 2024. This digital transformation project gave this client an integrated system that starts with the sales prospect, that turns in a customer, that purchases a contracted service, that service becomes a project where team members bill time and expenses, the end customer is billed for that service, and accurate financial reporting is produced.  This was a 44-person team that included IT and Business professionals and took 1 year to deliver once Terri was appointed Program Manager.

2. Large Retail Chain - Microsoft AX 2012

We partnered with a prominent retail chain facing critical project challenges. Their project was in the dreaded “Red Status.” Our approach involved addressing several key issues:

  • Team Dynamics: We revamped team collaboration and communication.
  • Project Management: Streamlined processes and introduced effective project management practices.
  • Customization: Balanced customization needs with best practices.
  • Organizational Change: Implemented change management strategies to ensure smooth transitions.

The result? A successful turnaround, transforming their project from red to green.

3. Large Food Distributor - Microsoft Dynamics 365 Retail

This food distributor grappled with an immature product and leadership frustration. Our intervention focused on:

  • Product Maturity: Navigated challenges posed by an evolving product.
  • Team Dynamics: Alleviated frustration and fostered collaboration.
  • Go-Live Struggles: Addressed repeated go-live attempts.

The outcome? A green project status, with a more efficient and effective system.

4. Large Knowledge Non-Profit - Microsoft Dynamics 365

For a knowledge-focused non-profit, we tackled complex issues:

  • Project Management: Introduced robust project management practices.
  • Team Alignment: Ensured team focus on critical activities.
  • Scope Management: Defined clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Sales Promises vs. Reality: Bridged the gap between promised technology features and actual functionality.

The result? A successful project that aligned technology with their mission.

FROM YELLOW TO GREEN: OUR PROJECT SUCCESS STORIES

5. International Construction Company - Microsoft Dynamics 365

  • Challenges: Poor project management, distracted client team due to day-to-day responsibilities, and misaligned project methodology.
  • Our Approach: Streamlined project management practices, engaged the client team effectively, and aligned the methodology with client expectations.
  • Result: A transformed project now shining green.

6. Large Manufacturer - Microsoft Dynamics 365

  • Challenges: Team confusion regarding roles and responsibilities, frustrated accountability, unhelpful executive leadership, and lack of buy-in for business solutions.
  • Our Strategy: Clarified roles, fostered collaboration, provided informed leadership, and ensured alignment with business goals.
  • Outcome: A green project status with a cohesive and efficient team.

Projects that Never Went Live: Lessons Learned

12. Large IT Distribution Company - Oracle to Microsoft D365

Despite our unwavering efforts, certain projects encounter insurmountable hurdles. In this instance:

  • Customization Overload: A highly customized solution complicated implementation.
  • Team Dynamics: Unhealthy interactions hindered progress.
  • End-User Buy-In: Without support from end users, success remained elusive.

13. Retail Jewelry Chain - Microsoft D365

Regrettably, this project never materialized due to critical factors:

  • Leadership Disconnect: Executive leadership failed to proactively address issues and risks.
  • Business Team Focus: The project lacked the necessary focus and time commitment from business team leadership and members.

While we always strive for success, acknowledging these challenges is essential. We learn from them and pave the way for future triumphs.
